Shaid Hussain
Brathay 10in10 Athlete

Hi, my name is Shaid Hussain, aged 40, from Greater Manchester and I work for the NHS.
2023 – Who would have thought back at the beginning of January, as I was recovering from a very serious illness, that I’d regain my health and now be running a combination of road and ultra trail marathons?
Witnessing the class of 2023 running the Windemere course during my recovery, inspired me to want to participate in the 2024 event and gave me impetus to continue with my running as an aid on my recovery journey. Having seen other runners overcome physical problems made me realise that I too could do the same and do some good for charity at the same time.
Whilst I know that I run ultra trail marathons, there is something unique and special about running the Brathay 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days. Therefore, participating in the 2024 event would complete my recovery physically and mentally after a difficult year.
Having been selected as the first Pakistani Muslim to enter the Brathay 10in10 gives me huge pride to represent all BAME groups. The opportunity to inspire and encourage the BAME community to take up running, whilst raising money for charity, was too good to miss. Such an opportunity has given me the platform to nurture an inclusive running community and to actively promote running within the BAME community.
Growing up, I had the support of youth services and local charities who not only took me under their wing but provided me with direction and a sense of purpose. I hope now to be presented with an opportunity to give something back to communities and groups supporting vulnerable young children in the same way I was supported.
So please do donate and share so that we make a difference.
