Simon Fawcett
brathay 10in10 athlete

My name is Simon Fawcett, I live in Stoke on Trent, and I will be forty-three years young when I take part in what will be my second ten in ten running adventure.
My motivation for taking part for the second time is even more powerful than the first because this time around I have a greater understanding of the amazing work that Brathay does to help young people. Having been a teacher sixteen years now, it has always been a great passion of mine to ensure that the youngsters that I work with always get the best opportunity to succeed.
I know that I have helped countless young people to become better, more confident and happier versions of themselves and the opportunity to fund raise for Brathay through running is the perfect vehicle for me to be able to extend my reach for helping young people just that little bit further and I am grateful for Brathay for giving me the opportunity to do this again.
In recent years I have taken my running to new levels, the highlight of which was of course taking part in the ten in ten back in 2022. This was my first multiday event and it turned out to be a real baptism of fire for me. I know that I will be better prepared the second time around! Since taking my running more seriously I have managed to win the Tissington Trail Marathon Twice, as well as The Lions Bridge 50k and I have placed 5th in the Langdale Marathon and 6th in the Windermere Marathon, also winning my age group on both occasions. I compete regularly in the North Staffs Road Runners Association series of races, often placing in the top ten which led to me being selected to race for Staffordshire early in 2023. The main thing however for me is that I run because I enjoy it and it helps me to keep a clear and focused mind.
I will be doing everything in my power to make sure that I complete the ten in ten. I will be training hard and smart to make sure that I am good to go. I will apply the same mindset to my fundraising because that has to be just as important as the training for me between now and the start of the event and beyond. I know that every single penny raised will go towards improving the lives of young people and this will be the main motivating factor for me as I embark upon my preparation for big event. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for reading this short profile as well as thanking you in advance for any support that you may give me along the way. Yet again, it is time to go to work!
