Mark Blewitt

Brathay 10in10 Athlete

My Brathay journey began in 2010, when I first visited with my wife, Andie, to support her colleague Becky in the Windermere Marathon. I did not realise it at the time, but that day planted a seed. After losing Andie in 2021, I started running partly as a way to find space, peace and a meditative escape. In 2022, I returned to Brathay to run my first Windermere Marathon, and the connection with this special place has stayed with me ever since.

I did not want to be the guy that ran one and that was it. I didn’t have to go all over the World either – with such lovely marathons on my doorstep; Lancaster, Morecambe, Windermere, Langdale, although I did venture overseas to the Isle of Man.

In May 2027, I will take on Brathay’s extraordinary 10in10 challenge: 10 marathons in 10 days around Windermere. It is a huge fundraising, physical and mental test, with the added challenge of managing Type 1 diabetes on insulin, but one I feel proud and excited to take on as part of a journey that began at Brathay and has grown into something much bigger.

I’m excited to test myself while raising money to support Brathay Trust’s incredible work with children and young people across the UK.
