Brathay 10in10 Athlete
Hi, I’m Matthew Thornley and I live in Hawkshead – on the Bratahy 10in10 marathon course! I have lived in the area for 20 years, and remember watching and cheering the runners past our primary school in Hawkshead – so this is a big ‘full circle’ moment for me!
Growing up in the lake District, I have always known about Brathay Trust and the 10in10 event.
I want to raise money for Brathay because I believe in the work they do. I see the physically demanding challenge as a small sacrifice if it can help even just one young person have a better start to life. I hope that with the funds raised Brathay will be able to help even more young people facing difficult circumstances, helping them to build confidence, resilience and a brighter future.
Sport has always played a big part in my life. In my junior years I was a member of Ambleside Athletics Club. I completed my first half marathon at the start of 2025 and also the Windermere Marathon.
