Robin Bartlett

Brathay 262 Athlete

My history is more running than cycling. I took to my bike in 2017 when a few of my running friends decided to cycle The Way of the Roses over two days. That's Morecambe to Bridlington or 170 miles!

So we started training. After a successful trip, we thought we would have a go at the Fred Whitton Challenge thinking, "how hard could it be?"  It turned out to be very hard! It’s 113 miles and over 13000ft of climbing, going over all the major passes in the Lakes. Hardknott pass comes in at 90 miles followed by Wrynose pass! It’s a killer of a day.

So a new hobby was found going from marathon running to ultra running and now long distance bike rides.

This is a real challenge for me as the furthest I’ve ridden in a day is 150 miles. I’m looking forward to a big challenge this time and doing it for a really worth while cause. Without charities like Brathay, these young people wouldn’t get the chance to make positive changes to their environment and their communities.
