Sarah Procter

Brathay 262 Athlete

I am Sarah – I’m 40 years old in 2020 and have decided to take part in the Brathay 262 in order to mark the occasion. I live near Melton Mowbray (where the pork pies come from) with my sports mad 7 year old, Harry. I work as an Agent for the NFU Mutual and the National Farmers Union and can often be seen pedalling to and from the office.

I’ve only been biking since January 2017 but totally love it and am regularly out on my bike in the beautiful Vale of Belvoir where I live. I ride out with a few local clubs (Belvoir Riders, Tempo and also the Vale of Belvoir Cycling Club) and have taken part in a few 70 – 100 mile sportives (wiggle Steeple chase epic route, Reservoir Cogs, Belvoir Blast, King Edward at Newark to name but a few) over the last couple of years. I also took part in my first official elite race in June 2019 at the Tour of Cambridge.

In September 2018 I cycled from London to Paris in 24hrs for Diabetes UK and raised £3,800 in the process. I’ve been looking for an extra special challenge ever since I got to Paris really, and as soon as I saw the Brathay 262 I knew that I wanted to do it – I was thrilled and honoured when I was offered a place (what’s not to like – cycling, the beautiful lake District, cycling up hills (one of my crazy loves) and making money for a totally fantastic cause which helps improves the lives of so many people).

In addition to the physical and metal challenge Brathay 262 is going to give me I’m also a type 1 diabetic (and have been since 1990). This in itself will be a huge challenge whilst taking part the 262 – however I am a very determined person and want to prove that diabetes doesn’t have to stop you achieving your dreams. I’d really love to encourage others who are in the same boat as me, and hope that by taking part in events like Brathay 262 it will just make at least one other diabetic realise that this condition doesn’t have to stop you from reaching your goals.

I really can’t wait to take part in the Brathay 262 and would like to thank everyone who has donated to help raise funds for the fantastic Brathay Trust.
