Brathay 10in10 Athlete
My name is Pat Norris and I’m a 51 year old Intensive Care Charge Nurse from Worcestershire. My running career started about eight years ago like most people after New Year’s: an instantly regrettable New Year’s resolution. I ran my first half marathon with my long-suffering wife and my love for running was born!
At my first marathon in Stratford, I soon noticed a group of runners wearing the ‘100 marathon club’ logo t-shirts and my initial thought was: ‘How could anyone run 100 marathons?!’ However, after several minutes of ill-conceived thoughts and desperately angry looks from my wife, I soon realised I was starting a journey. Fast forward eight years, I have run 141 marathons and have shared many miles with some amazing individuals along the way. There has been laughter, tears, some VERY large blisters but above all, some great memories!
Memories: I have been fortunate enough to complete amazing challenges, such as double and quadruple marathons as well as the Comrades Ultra Marathon in South Africa twice. I have had the joy of running the Windermere Marathon five times. Equally on day 10 of a past 10in10, I have stood in complete awe and amazement of the fantastic athletes taking on this huge challenge. Many of these people I now consider friends and have inspired me to take on this year’s 10in10, including regular participant and bad singer Davey Green and his book on the 10in10.
The challenge is daunting however it is for a worthy cause. Every painful step I take on this beautiful course, I will be very much aware that the funds we raise helps continue the fantastic work of the Brathay Trust, helping to improve and change the lives of young people.
My biggest fear, above anything, is forgetting to bring money for ice cream at the top of Ice Cream Mountain!
