Day 7 - 20 May
Brathay 10in10 2021
The same marathon course....but a very different day. The team started the 8th marathon in as many days in dry, cool conditions - ideal for running. However, as the leaders passed 8 miles the heavens opened and rain fell heavily for the rest of the day.
Greg Thorley, Neil Jones and Catherine Higgins all had really challenging runs and had to dig deep to complete the stormy 26.2 miles. They were all out on the course for their longest runs yet - Greg 6:20:28, Neil 6:28:48 and Catherine 6:29:28. But tomorrow's another day and anything can happen.
Really determined running by the whole team to complete their lap of Windermere. In great form, Paul Mayson has now been running for more than 24 hours since starting the event a week ago. His winning time today was 3:53:30 – making it 7 wins out of 7! Claire Harrison was again second with a strong run of 3:58:30 - her second fastest of the week.
Day 7 is often the most difficult marathon psychologically. Today, in heavy rain all runners needed to draw on deep reserves to complete their 183.4 miles over 7 days. The key at this stage is to keep positive and just focus on recovery for tomorrow…..and Saturday…..and Sunday!
