Andy Townsend

Brathay 10in10 Athlete

I’m Andy Townsend (no not the ex-footballer) and I am taking part in the considerable challenge that is the Brathay 10in10 in 2022. I am 43 and while I have completed three marathons and a number of half-marathons, this will be my biggest running challenge by far!

I am happily married to Cath and have two fabulous daughters Dom (more on her in a minute) and Abby, and two dogs Mabel and Hope. I've entered the Brathay 10in10 for three main reasons: 1. To raise some money to help Brathay Trust support children and young people to make positive choices and engage in their communities; 2. A personal challenge - to see how far into the dark I can go and challenge myself (was trying not to be too dramatic there)! and 3. It's an opportunity to meet the fell running legend that is Joss Naylor.

My daughter Dom has just finished her degree in Sports Rehabilitation at the University of Cumbria. Students on the course support the 10in10 every year, so she gets the blame for introducing me to the event and the work of this wonderful charity. Over the past two years, I've seen the excitement and enthusiasm the event generates amongst the students - and it's very infectious.
