Alfie Thorpe

Brathay 10in10 Athlete

My name is Alfie, I live in Broughton-in-furness, Cumbria.

When I saw my friend John Jardine training for last year's Brathay 10in10, I researched the charity and thought this is a great cause and I would love to join in.

I have been competing in fell races since I was 4 years old and now race as a senior over all distances. I realise I am very fortunate to have grown up in the Lake District and want to give other young people opportunities to access the outdoors. Time spent connecting with nature will stay with you forever.

Not much of my previous running has been on roads, so this event will be a particular challenge for me. I am determined to increase my road miles until my legs become accustomed to it. I have many running friends who I am hoping to involve in my training and maybe inspire to help this charity.

In 2016 I was the 6th person of any age to finish the Coniston to Barrow challenge aged 13. Even at that age I really enjoyed the level of concentration needed for the longer road distances.

I also really enjoy being racing on the fells and have competed in many long races - including the Duddon Fell Race (2021 & 2022) and the 2023 That's Lyth race.
