Lee Wilkinson
Brathay 10in10 Athlete
Hi I'm Lee, I live in Sandbach with my girlfriend Jo, our family, 2 dogs and a cat. Starting on Friday 12th May 2023, I will be taking part in the Brathay 10in10 for the second time, and I can't wait to get started again....I think. 10 marathons in 10 days, 262 miles around the iconic Windermere, England's largest lake, raising money to support the fantastic work Brathay Trust does to help disadvantaged children and young people.
It was October 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, when I first experienced what the Brathay 10in10 is all about and what a huge challenge it is. You really do feel part of something very special, not only with the other runners and support team, but also discovering the amazing work Brathay Trust does. It was an incredible experience and I absolutely loved it, even though it was both physically and mentally demanding. With the help of the support team I thankfully had a wonderful 10 days, despite 2020 becoming known as the 'Monsoon Edition'.
So why go back? That's a good question. Once the fatigue had worn off, I knew within days I wanted to go back and experience this incredible event again....hopefully not in the middle of a pandemic this time, and maybe, just maybe, we'll have better weather than we did in October 2020!
Thankfully my application was successful and I have the opportunity to take on the challenge of running 10 laps of Windermere again. It is a privilege to raise funds for such a worthwhile charity, as well as share the experience of the 10in10 is with my fellow runners. Disadvantaged young people need our help now more than ever, anything I can do to support them feels a real privilege.
