Brathay Hall provides a stunning event centre for the ASICS Windermere Marathon and Brathay 5K. This Georgian country house overlooks the northern shore of Windermere with a backdrop of Lake District fells. Runners often tell us that the lawn at Brathay Hall, with stunning scenery all around, provides the most memorable finish line experience anywhere. The grounds of Brathay Hall also provide the setting for the Windermere Marathon Festival of Running, with refreshments, activities and entertainment to keep spectators and visitors busy while the events take place.
Mortimere

Mortimere is an artificial tarn on the eastern edge of the Brathay Estate. In the 1960s the Director of Studies, Mike Mortimer, enlarged an existing small pond to provide a convenient location for biology studies. Runners in the 5K will pass Mortimere before turning into the woods surrounding Skelwith Fold Caravan Park.
The road passing the tarn can be seen in the bottom left corner of the photo.
Skelwith Fold Caravan Park

After running with the runners in the ASICS Windermere Marathon for a couple of kilometres, runners in the Brathay 5K turn of the road and into Beck Pane Wood. From here runners slowly make their way towards Skelwith Fold Caravan Park. After making their way through the park runners then exit onto Bog Lane.
River Brathay

Runners join the River Brathay a little over half way round their run. From here they will follow the river as it makes its way back to the bottom of the Brathay Estate. The river is made up of various tributaries from the Langdale Valley and flows into the River Rothay before both flow into Windermere.
Brathay Church

Whilst running alongside the River Brathay, runners in the 5K pass Brathay Church. At this point runners enter the final kilometre of their run making them well on the way to having completed their challenge.
NB the church hall has a great coffee morning, most Thursday's 10am.
The finishing straight

Runners in the 5K finish alongside runners in the ASICS Windermere Marathon and Brathay 10in10. This, combined with some great onsite entertainment makes for a nice weekend away for all of the runners taking part.
