Jamie Park

Golden Bond Runner

I’m Jamie Park, 28 years old and I work as a Head Chef working for Adam Handling.

Ordinarily, I wouldn’t call myself a runner, or at least a marathon runner. My longest run to date is 10km. The reason I’m undertaking the 2019 London Marathon is Matt Campbell. I became friends with Matt during MasterChef Professionals 2018 and his passing is still something I find incredibly difficult to talk about. He had such a positive impact on my life in such a short space of time and for this reason, I’d like to support his chosen fundraising charity, the Brathay Trust, in the 2019 London Marathon.

Fundraising for the Brathay Trust will be a relatively new experience for me. I’ve recently started fundraising after Matt’s passing through the Finish for Matt run campaign and social media hashtags #runformatt. I’m excited by this challenge though and I feel like I’m going to smash my target. I’ve had a lot of interest in events with support from the MasterChef team. I’m also hosting supper clubs and masterclasses for donators at my restaurant.

This fundraising campaign is a massive motivation to put on my shoes and go running. Music definitely helps too – the right playlist helps push me that bit further. I’ve also heard that audio books are good too…

My main motivation and hope is to continue raising awareness for Brathay Trust and to keep Matt’s legacy going. I’m not only cooking for Matt but running too. Although it’s going to be hard, I’m motivated and ready for the challenge. An ex-Paratrooper once told me, “pain is just fear escaping the body,” and I’m relating to it even more. Especially with the 5am alarms so that I can run and train before work – I’m really not a morning person! Only for Matt and the Brathay Trust!
