Jemma Smith

Golden Bond Runner

I moved from Yorkshire to Lancashire nearly 20 years ago now after coming to study at Lancaster University and subsequently falling for the area and my wife Hannah. We live in Lancaster with our two dogs Sidney and Bear and when we have time off together we enjoy nothing better than going out on long walks on the fells.

My introduction to running was a little haphazard: I work in hospitality and very misguidedly thought that because I worked on my feet all day I would automatically be really fit for running and so signed up to run the London Marathon in 2014 without really giving it too much thought ...or training for that matter. Despite the odds and extreme feelings of regret the day before the event the marathon went well! Although this time around I will definitely be putting in more miles beforehand!

I firmly believe in the outreach work that Brathay does to support vulnerable children and young people and post-pandemic supporting the Trust in this way feels even more essential. This is why I have chosen to run London Marathon for Brathay Trust.
