Rich Rex

Golden Bond Runner

I’m Richard Rex, I’m from East Yorkshire and I work as an IT Test Analyst. I have a wife and family, and in my free time I am a lifelong supporter of Hull City AFC and I run (obviously).

I first started running in early 2012, primarily as a fundraising activity for a charity that helps children with life-limiting conditions to fulfil their dreams. In that year I ran several 10Ks and half marathons and caught the bug for running.

This carried through into 2013, again as a fundraiser for another charity that helps to grant the wishes of seriously ill children. It was during this challenge that I made a foray into full marathon running after winning a ballot entry for London.

2014 saw me complete my first Windermere marathon and an application to the 2015 Brathay 10in10 followed shortly after that, and acceptance into the event was the catalyst for focus on long distance and marathon running.

My most special or memorable running achievements are:

2013: London Marathon

2014: Windermere Marathon

2015: Brathay 10in10

2016: Istanbul Marathon

2017: Ultimate Trails 55.

2018: Lakeland 50

I have completed a total of 130 marathons since my first in 2013, and with good health I am looking forward to adding to this as I prepare and train for London in 2020.

I have become locked in to supporting the work of Brathay Trust and although I enjoy challenging myself over marathon distance, it is raising funds for the charity that is the main motivation that draws me back. I continue to be inspired by the stories and testimonies of the children and young adults whose lives are turned around by Brathay. “There but for the grace of God, go I.”

In the six years that I have been involved in fundraising, and with truly wonderful support from those around me I’ve been able to raise £25,000. I’m looking forward to taking that number higher during my Spring 2020 adventure, and that will be a huge motivation when I’m out on those long training runs through winter.

My hopes for the event are that I stay injury free, complete the marathon, make my supporters proud and bring in as much money as I can for the Trust. Please support me.

Goal: £1,750
