Richard Rex

Golden Bond Runner

I'm Richard Rex and I'm from East Yorkshire. I came into running in my 40s and I've been at it for ten years now. I started running to get fitter and become more healthy but soon found myself joining my local club and then progressing from local 10K races into half marathons, and then ultimately marathons.

My association with Brathay Trust began back in 2014 when I ran my 5th ever marathon at Windermere, and I have been inspired to run my socks off for the charity year after year since. I have felt the support, love, and counsel that Brathay offer to so many troubled and broken children and it has had an enormous positive impact on me. That's something for which I will be ever grateful.

Without a doubt, that run around Windermere in 2014 paved the way for my immersion into my marathon running journey, and that journey has brought so many good friends and good times into my life. This fundraising challenge for Brathay is also my way of saying thank you to the Trust and the lovely people there who have done so much for me.

These last couple of years I have been plagued by injuries (I'm not as young as I once was), and on two occasions it has taken 6 months to recover. It's been so hard to stay motivated on the road back but raising funds for Brathay always helps to keep me going. I'm so happy the charity has once more provided an opportunity for me, and I hope I do them proud.
