Golden Bond Runner
Hi, my name is Stevie and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to represent and raise funds for Brathay Trust by running the London Marathon.
I’m 33 years old and from Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria. I run my family painting and decorating business, G.Porter & Son, with my father. I also manage Grange U7 junior football team which my son plays for.
I started running to help with fitness for football which I've played from a young age. I play for Cartmel Football Club, which I have for over 15 years.
Staying fit has become harder as I've got older, so I took up running and soon got the bug. I started in football shorts, old trainers, and an old polo shirt but was soon buying all the right gear.
My first event was a Park Run and I slowly increased the distance. Coniston 14 was my first longer event in 2018. Having completed the Manchester Half Marathon my head and ambition turned to the marathon. I entered the 2020 Edinburgh Marathon - only for this to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. I entered London Marathon in the last 2 years but was unsuccessful. London has always been the dream and thanks to Brathay I have been given the chance.
I can’t thank Brathay Trust enough and to show my thanks I will be working hard to raise as much money as I can for their work with young people.
Brathay is a local charity that does such a great job in helping children and young people who haven’t had the opportunities all children deserve. It’s an honor and a privilege to run for Brathay and I will be doing my utmost to raise funds and then to run for them.
