Fundraising
Running events like the ASICS Windermere Marathon are great opportunities to set yourself a personal goal and challenge, perhaps having overcome adversity or simply because you enjoy running.
For most, running a marathon is a huge challenge with many physical and mental hurdles to overcome both during training and the event itself. While participants in the ASICS Windermere Marathon don't have to raise sponsorship for charity, it's a great opportunity to support Brathay Trust's work to create opportunities for thousands of vulnerable children and young people.
If you do decide to raise funds to support Brathay's work we are here to help with advice and resources to support your appeal.
Firstly, establish a fundraising target that you think will be achievable depending on how much time you have leading up to the event. Tell people you're running the marathon and a little bit about the charity you're supporting; include your family, friends and work colleagues and you'll soon start to see donations towards your target.
You can make it easy for people to support you by setting up an online fundraising page using JustGiving. Sharing your story and Brathay's mission on social media is a great way of promoting your appeal and reaching more suporters.
In addition to online fundraising you might also decide to hold additional events or initiatives to engage supporters to make a contribution to your appeal. These might include:
- Dress down days at work
- Cake sales (we find cake always goes down well!)
- Team events and activities for work colleagues and/or friends
- Car boot sales
- Forfeit coffee/alcohol/sweets/snacks for a week and donate the savings to your appeal
- Themed parties such as bonfire night, New Year or an Easter Egg hunt
- Raffles and lotteries.
We will provide printed and online resources to support any fundraising activity you create.
Let us know if you've got some great ideas we could share with your fellow runners!
