Cross Bay Walk 2017 2

Getting to the event

The Promenade, Arnside, LA5 0HA

The Promenade in Arnside serves as the start for the Brathay Trust Cross Bay Walk.

Travelling by car

Leave the M6 J36 following signs for Kendal on the A590. Continue on the A590 until presented with signs for the A6 to Milnthorpe. Continue to Milnthorpe centre and then follow signs for Arnside on the B5282.

Travelling by train

There are excellent rail connections to Arnside (via Lancaster on the West Coast mainline). Upon arriving in Arnside you will have a half mile walk round the waterfront to reach the event start.

A unique walking experience

The Queen’s Official Guide to the Sands will lead a walk across the biggest expanse of tidal mudflats and sand in the UK. It is only possible at certain times of the year and under expert guidance.

Gather at the seaside village of Arnside and come prepared to walk the sands and paddle the waters as you cross the bay. Allow between 3-4 hours for the walk which takes in incredible, expansive views. Finishing at Grange promenade near Grange-over-Sands, a popular way to return to Arnside is to catch the two carriage train back. Many end the afternoon with fish and chips, a meal or a brew at a pub.

Please be aware that there will be water – at least knee deep - to walk or wade through and that there’s uneven ground at the end of the walk as we reach the end of the walk.

Standard Entry: £15
