Martin Marriott
London Marathon Runner

My name is Martin. I’m 45 years old and married to Louise. We are about to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in October, and we have two adult sons: Ben, 24, and Jonny, 22. I live in Staveley, near Windermere, and for the last five years I have worked for the bespoke paper manufacturer James Cropper, based in Burneside.
As someone who has run on and off since the age of 16, I have always had a desire to run the London Marathon but have never been successful in the ballot. Over the last two years, I have really got back into running and now train harder and eat better than ever before.
For this year’s Great North Run, I ran in aid of Motor Neurone Disease, which my dad sadly died from 16 years ago. When I wasn’t successful in securing a London Marathon place through the public ballot, I discovered Brathay Trust had charity places available.
Having lived in the South Lakes for the past 25 years and being aware of the fantastic and important work that Brathay Trust does with young people, it was a privilege not only to raise funds for the charity but also to represent them in the London Marathon.
I believe that smaller charities deserve just as much exposure and support as larger ones, and I am proud to be able to contribute to their work.
