New Trail Running Events for 2022!

Expect dramatic scenes, challenging hills, and a unique offering of local food at the refreshment stations.
The Ambleside 25K & 50K is jointly hosted by The Climbers Shop and Brathay Trust, bringing a wealth of experience from local outdoor enthusiasts who can support with training plans, guided runs in the Lake District or kit assistance at The Climbers Shop.
This year there will be two distances offering more options for to those looking to tackle the trails. Our 50km race is aimed at runners looking for a challenging distance and is modelled on the previous Brathay race, Ambleside Trail 60. The route passes through iconic Lake District locations starting in Rothay Park, climbing over Loughrigg then heading towards Skelwith Bridge, Coniston, and Little Langdale. Runners will head back to Ambleside via Grasmere, soaking up spectacular views on their descent.
This year also sees the introduction of a shorter 25km route providing a perfect opportunity for those who are comfortable with distance but taking their first steps into trail running. There are good trails which are well marked on the day so runners can focus on covering the terrain and distance.
Race director Scott Umpleby said, “We received brilliant feedback from the Ambleside Trail 60 but we also know part of the course ventured onto fell running terrain. We’ve taken this on board and in the spirit of keeping things accessible we have two distances that we are really excited about.
Trail running has exploded and the Lake District is a fantastic place for runners to challenge themselves on hilly terrain. But it’s not all hard work, we have fantastic support from the local community and are positive their tasty treats will help keep everyone smiling on their way round”.
