We are shocked and deeply saddened to hear that Helen Renton died in a road accident while cycling on Sunday afternoon. Helen lived in Dumfries with her husband Chris and young son Charlie.

Helen was a dedicated supporter of Brathay Trust's work with children and young people. Together with Chris she raised thousands of pounds to help young people improve their life chances.

She completed the Brathay 10in10 endurance running event in 2016. It was at this event that she and Chris met. After getting married Helen gave birth to Charlie and the family moved to settle in Dumfries in 2019.

Not content with running 10 laps of Windermere, Helen returned to Brathay last year to complete the Brathay 262 cycling event. She showed a huge amount of strength and commitment to become the first woman to successfully complete both the Brathay 10in10 and Brathay 262 events.

Everyone who knew Helen is shocked and saddened that she should be taken so suddenly. She made many friends at Brathay and we appreciate the memories she has left us with.

Our thoughts are now with Chris, Charlie and Helen's wider family at this very sad time.
