NHS team row Windermere Double to raise £3k+ for Brathay
The 24-strong team set the record for the Windermere Double Challenge recently, and organiser Harry Harrison, Commissioning Manager for Children and Families for NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “I hope that everyone is feeling well and very ’chuffed’ with themselves after our exertions. Everyone was amazing. The enthusiasm and motivation that was present during the day was excellent, and we were really lucky with the weather. We all kept each other going, made new friends, got sore bottoms and had sore hands.”
This was the first time we had ran the Windermere Double Challenge with four teams of six rowing the 10.5 mile length of the lake in whaling boats, before two teams of 12 paddled back in voyager boats.
The 21 mile challenge was completed in six hours and 17 minutes.
Mr Harrison said: “We had NHS staff from all over Cumbria taking part. It was hard work, but there was plenty of laughing and some singing going on. I think people were happy to take part because of the great work Brathay does for young people here in Cumbria helping them to reach their potential.”
The money will be used to support the work of the Brathay Trust helping the social and personal development of young people, raising aspiration and supporting them to make positive choices to improve their life chances.
