ASICS WINDERMERE MARATHON AND BRATHAY 5K CANCELLED

Asics Windermere Marathon 2019 1118
27 Aug

As we all know, the events sector has been significantly affected by COVID-19 with many sports and activities postponed or cancelled. The circumstances surrounding each event are different and we have applied Run Britain’s advice and control measures to all our running events. We have tried hard to find a way to hold the Windermere Marathon and Brathay 5k safely, while also hoping for a reduction in COVID cases and relaxation of Government controls.

The challenges we face with access, car parking, registration, race start and finish are such that we cannot guarantee social distancing and control the risk of COVID-19 transmission in a way that is safe for participants, volunteers, the event delivery team and the general public. Continued local lockdowns in parts of the country also add to the complexities of delivering an event of this scale that is safe for everyone.

So, it is with a heavy heart that we are now cancelling the 2020 ASICS Windermere Marathon and Brathay 5k.

Everyone who has entered the marathon or 5k have been sent an email explaining the circumstances leading to this difficult decision. This includes a discount into next year’s events and the option to transfer their 2020 entry to another Brathay Running event this year.

Brathay Trust is facing the biggest challenge in our 74-year history. The children and young people we work with come from some of the most disadvantaged families across the north of England. In the coming months and years they will need the services of charities like Brathay more than ever. Your support at this critical time will really make a difference – thank you!

We look forward to returning to delivering inspiring and memorable events for all our supporters and will welcome you back to Brathay as soon as we can. In the meantime stay safe, stay well and keep running!
