A big thank you to all runners supporting Brathay in yesterday’s London Marathon. Twelve runners lined up on the start line after months of training and fundraising to support Brathay. The race was held in perfect conditions – clear and cool with just a few minutes of light rain.

The Brathay team were all running in memory of Matt Campbell, whose untimely death at last year’s London Marathon led to a remarkable outpouring of emotion and support. Matt and his father, Martin, cared deeply about supporting young people to grow up with the resilience to meet future challenges. Both saw the impact of Brathay’s programmes on young people and their families, and were committed to volunteering their time to support us. Part of Matt and Martin’s legacy is to improve the resilience of young people at important times in their lives through the new 3.7 programme.

There was fantastic running from all Brathay runners, with some running their first marathon. Their profiles can be viewed here.

Eliud Kipchoge won the race in a stunning 2:02:37, the second fastest marathon of all time, and the women’s race was won by Brigid Kosgei in 2:18:20. Equally impressive are performances by the thousands of runners raising funds for charitable causes. This year saw the total raised since the event started in 1981 pass £1billion.

The funds raised by Brathay’s runners currently stands at over £32,000 (including Gift Aid). Thank you to everyone who’s donated – your support is really appreciated. The team’s fundraising pages can be viewed here.

The funds raised by the team will provide life changing opportunities for many more young people.
