Windermere Marathon 2025 – Exciting News!
In September this year the Brathay Trust (‘Brathay’) announced that it had made the difficult decision not to deliver the Windermere Marathon in 2025.
Brathay are delighted to announce that the Great Run Company, the UK’s biggest mass participation sports company, will be organising this iconic event from 2025 with Brathay named as the leading charity partner of the event.
Founded by Sir Brendan Foster, Great Run Company has supported and cheered over 4.7m runners, swimmers, and cyclists across the finish line of their class-leading sponsored fundraising events over the last 40 years. They already operate in the Lake District, with Windermere the venue for the Great North Swim and the Fells home to their new 13 Valleys Ultra event. In total Great Run Company events have raised over £775m for good causes and Brathay is delighted to have their logistical support and operational know-how underpinning the Windermere Marathon.
The 2025 Windermere Marathon will be part of their Great North Swim event (13th – 15th June) with the Marathon taking place on Sunday 15th June. The iconic and beautiful course will broadly remain the same with new start and finish locations providing returning and new runners an opportunity to experience all the Lake District has to offer.
Brathay will be represented over the event weekend to help raise the profile of the work of the charity. Participants can apply for Brathay Charity places in the Great North Swim or Marathon, so continuing to raise funds for its transformational work with young people in the community and on life-changing outdoor residentials.
Great Run Company and Brathay are excited to work together to support the amazing running community, continue the 18-year history of the Windermere Marathon and enable Brathay to raise donations to inspire young people to build brighter futures.
